The emergence of Covid-19 and the existing problem of viral contamination of surfaces has given rise to the need for long-term anti-bacterial solutions. The project consists of creating silver nanoparticles, a long-term solution to surface bacterial contamination, through a green biosynthesis process that upcycles waste sugarcane leaves. Traditionally, these leaves are incinerated to reduce labor costs associated with clearing the fields after harvest, however, my product upcycles these surplus leaves and uses them in the production of silver nanoparticles.

NANO-L is an affordable, anti-pathogenic surface coating that uses silver nanoparticles produced through a green process which upcycles harvest waste.

The project was awarded the “The Global Innovation Prize Award 2022” at the Diamond Challenge 2022.
